Preparing for Distance Reiki

How to Prepare for Your Distant Reiki Session:

Relax and Reflect - Prior to your session, take a few minutes to sit and reflect. Check in with how your body is feeling and take note of any emotions, thoughts, or physical sensations you're experiencing. Focus on your breathing, and and tend to whatever your body's needs might be on that given day. I also recommend going over things you may have shared with me prior to the session and focus on the intention(s) you set for the session.

Eat and Hydrate - You’ll want to be sure you've eaten and hydrated prior to the session, mostly so that you will be comfortable and/or not distracted by hunger or thirst during the session. I recommend a light snack vs. a heavy heavy meal, as you don’t want all of your body’s energy to be directed toward digestion while receiving your Reiki treatment.

Get Comfortable - It is recommended that you lie down for the majority of your session, since comfort is key when it comes to opening yourself up to receiving and integrating Reiki energy. Be sure you are also wearing comfortable clothing and remove any jewelry prior to the session. You’ll also want to use the restroom before the session. Because emotional and physical changes can take place during the session, I recommend having a blanket, a box of tissue, and a glass of water nearby. I also recommend any "creature comforts" that will make the session more personal and meaningful, like lighting your favorite candle, diffusing your favorite essential oil, or having your favorite crystals nearby.

During Your Reiki Session:

Breathe & Just Be - Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, allowing yourself to breathe naturally. As you breath in and out, let go and allow your mind and body to melt into a state of relaxation. If you find that your mind is too active, simply bring your focus back to your breathing. In; out. In; out.

State Your Intention, Trust & Receive - State your intention aloud or silently, release any expectations, and trust that you are receiving the Reiki energy being channeled to you. Throughout the session, you may have sensations of warmth or tingling, see visions or colors within your minds eye, laugh or cry unexpectedly, fall asleep, or you may not feel anything at all. Each individual and each session is unique, so try not to direct the energy during the session. When we try to control the outcome, that can actually create interference. Remember that Reiki is intelligent energy and will go where it is needed most. When the session is complete, give thanks for the Reiki and trust that everything happened in divine order and was for your highest good.

After Your Reiki Session:

Assimilate & Reflect - Many of Reiki's benefits occur during or soon after the session ends, so it's recommended not to book or schedule anything directly following your session. Instead, be gentle with yourself and take time to process what may arise following Reiki healing. I recommend taking at least 15-20 minutes after the session to sit in silence, meditate, listen to calming music, go for a walk, or even take a nap. You may also want to take time to reflect and document your experience through journaling, drawing, etc. Whatever you choose to do, find an activity that helps you connect with the experience.

Hydrate - It’s important to remain hydrated after any type of energy work. Be sure to drink a glass of  water after your session, and continue to stay hydrated throughout the day. Because Reiki is a healing modality that redirects circulation and stimulates the organs, so you may find that you're hungry or need to use the restroom following your session. Everyone reacts differently, so take the time to tune into your body.

Remain Connected - Reiki is extremely gentle but, because energy blockages are being cleared in the body during a session, emotional or physical discomfort can arise. This is a normal part of the process, so remain gentle with yourself but also and feel free to connect with me if you have questions following your session. Reiki is an energy exchange, so I always want my clients to know that they can reach out to me anytime.
