Animal Reiki
Having a unique connection with animals and wildlife since childhood, combined with the experience of running my own pet care business for several years, it was a given that I would be offering animal Reiki when I became a Reiki practitioner.
I've loved multiple pets since I was a young girl, but the first four-legged animal I
was solely responsible for was a brown spotted tabby I named Libbey. I was 10 years old the first time I held her. The runt of the litter, she was born to a tabby named Keaton, who was owned by my uncle. I stayed overnight so that I could select the kitten I wanted, but she ended up choosing
me. I returned for her when she was six weeks old, and I can still
remember wrapping her in a blanket to stay warm on the drive home.
My mom worked for a local veterinarian at the time, so I had all of the
support I needed to become a young and dedicated first-time pet owner.
Libbey and I essentially grew up together, creating a bond that was
immeasurable and lasted for nearly two decades. Looking back, I can't
imagine my life story without her being a large part of it.
The night Libbey died is one I'll never forget. As difficult as it was, I can still see myself lying on the floor next to her with my hand resting on her frail body. She had gone blind and deaf in her final days, but she still knew me and my touch. I wasn't familiar with Reiki at the time, but I intuitively felt the energetic connection we shared. Now a Reiki practitioner, I have an even greater sense of peace and awareness when I reflect upon my bond with her and the other pets I've loved and lost since.
Animal Reiki uses the same techniques and principles of Reiki in a way that's tailored to the sensitive nature of animals. Benefiting both pets and wildlife, animal Reiki can help reduce stress, ease separation anxiety, reduce behavioral issues, heal trauma from past abusive situations, assist with the recovery from health issues or surgery, and it's also a humane and loving service for animals when it comes to end-of-life care.
